Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the New Wagon R. It comes with some significant mechanical changes, with the addition of the petrol 1.2 litre option while also having the existing 1.0 litre petrol engine option which produces 83 bhp and the 5 speed AMT gearbox available for both the engine options.
Pricing for the all new Wagon R in India starting at Rs 4.19 lakh for the base 1.0-litre LXi variant and going up to Rs 5.69 lakh for the AMT-equipped 1.2-litre ZXi model. The new Wagon R sticks to its tall-boy roots although it is quite different from the outgoing model – there’s a new platform, a new design, more room on the inside and the option of a more powerful engine.
It is available in four trims – 1.2 VXi (Rs 4.89 lakh), 1.2 VXi AMT (Rs 5.36 lakh), ZXi (Rs 5.22 lakh) and ZXi AMT (Rs 5.69 lakh). The 68hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine continues unchanged and is available in LXi (Rs 4.19 lakh), VXi (Rs 4.69 lakh) and VXi AMT (Rs 5.16 lakh) options.
The new Wagon R comes now with the Heartect platform which is available on models like the Ertiga, Ignis, Baleno and Swift, which makes it lighter than the outgoing model and also more safer as it is capable of meeting upcoming crash test norms. The New Wagon R is wider and longer by 125mm and 35mm.
The new Wagon R is now more equipped and on par with its rivals like the Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. It gets a driver’s side airbag (ZXi variants get dual front airbags), ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors, apart from other now-mandatory equipment. The top-end Wagon R ZXi gets creature comforts like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, power folding and adjustable wing mirrors with embedded turn indicators, front fog lamps, a rear defogger, washer and wiper, and more.
Priced between Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 5.69 lakh, the new Wagon R is up to Rs 34,000 more expensive than the outgoing model, which had a price tag between Rs 4.15 lakh and Rs 5.35 lakh.
